The article is dedicated to the memory of the outstanding archaeologist S. I. Kovalenko (1960–2025), a researcher of the Paleolithic of Moldova and the south-western part of Eastern Europe. It highlights his work at key Upper Paleolithic sites (Kosoutsy, Rashkov, Brynzeny, Bayraki), his contribution to the study of stratigraphy and lithic industries, as well as to the refinement of their cultural and chronological interpretation. The paper emphasizes his scholarly integrity, professionalism, and personal qualities.
