The paper replies to A. N. Sorokin’s recent criticism of the author’s periodization of the Final Palaeolithic and Early Mesolithic sites in the upper Volga region, published in no. 1 of Stratum plus in 2017. The opponent criticized my interpretation of the upper Volga sites, which I used to suggest an ecological approach to explain some cultural events of the turn of Pleistocene/Holocene. Based on his own typological periodization, A. N. Sorokin insists on Palaeolithic attribution of the regional antiquities, which I classified as Mesolithic according to the published materials and 14C dates. A. N. Sorokin also disputes reciprocal progression and chronology of distribution of Butovo and Yenevo cultural sites in the Mesolithic. Here I confute my opponent’s arguments and address his criticisms.
