More than six months have passed since that tragic day when an insidious disease snatched our dear friend Oleg Vasilyevich Sharov, our wonderful Shary, from our ranks. Many times I took up writing these lines, and every time I gave up — I didn't have the strength to accept his departure. I have a lump in my throat as I am writing this.
I do not consider myself entitled to write about Oleg as an archaeologist, a specialist in his field of science. The realities of modern archaeology have long been such that, being an inveterate Stone Age man, I can only imagine in the most general terms what and how is happening in the archaeology of later epochs. My competence rarely extends beyond the times when material culture was still connected with stone, that is, no later than the Bronze Age.
Oleg's scientific works will undoubtedly be far better evaluated by those who are familiar with the matter. Therefore, I will write about him as a friend, as a comrade and colleague, with whom the brightest pages of my life are inextricably linked. On the other hand, at the same time, I also do not intend to pretend to create a portrait of Oleg. I have neither the strength nor the ability to do this. This is just a short essay about Oleg, written in the non-existent genre of ‘grief’. Sketchily, I will try to note certain features that, in my opinion, were typical of him and especially dear to me.

Keywords: to the memory of friend
