The article is devoted to the problems of ethnicity, Diaspora, ethnic stereotypes and methods of their studying.
Bulgarian Diaspora of Moldova is divided into three groups: the first one includes technical and humanitarian intelligentsia characterized by the dynamic culture; the second group includes the peasantry, the bearers of archaic culture. The third group is the semi-Bulgarians and assimilated Bulgarians.
The author carried out the research to reveal ethnic stereotypes of the inhabitants ofValea-Pergei, which was described and analysed. The method of «personal constructs* created by G. A. Kelly was used. It has been modified; the role list has been replaced with the list of real people.
The ethnic picture of the word is presented by so called ethnic constants, and one of the main constants is «one's own image*. During the first year research in Valea-Pergei the high-school pupils and old inhabitants were interrogated to reveal characteristics that build up «one's own image* and reflect self-consciousness of local Bulgarians.
During the second year research 51 respondents were interrogated to reveal characteristics that build up ethnic stereotypes and reflect self-consciousness of local Bulgarians (the research concerned only the archaic part of Diaspora).
The research showed that the semantic space of the individual consists of bipolar constructs of positive and negative modality. Here the ethnic stereotypes are built and we may speak about their general positive trend toward ethnics of joint residing and «mother» ethnos.
The revealed stereotypes can't be divided into self- and hetero-stereotypes. The author carried out that the list of general constructs is similar for all stereotyped ethnics. The difference consists in intensity of each stereotype and its share in the general intensity.
The research also showed that the self-consciousness of local Bulgarians is characterized not only by ethnic division into «ones (own)» and «anothers», but also by the division into categories «ethnos», «village», Bessarabia.
The correlation analysis showed that local Bulgarian's and Gagauze's stereotypes are the closest. Plausible reason of it is «the idea or the myth about general culture, origin and history». At the same time weaker correlation of local Bulgarian's and Bulgarian's stereotypes may arise not only from territorial-information, but also significant historical-time break.
The author assumed that there is a direct relation between the stereotype's intensity and ethnic break. The more constructs intensity of ethnic stereotypes the less social distance between representatives ofthis ethnos and «one's own image» in a dyad «ones (own) and anothers».
The research confirmed the last year idea that the Bulgarian Diaspora of Moldova is going through the period of immobilization and some distinction from the «mother ethnics».
