In 2011—2012, on Rurikovo Gorodishche — the old residence of Novgorod knyazes — an excavation was launched on the spot identified for installation of a stela. This archaeological excavation at Volkhov River head yielded over 2,000 finds, weapon items among them, including 22 arrowheads, two darts, fragment of spur and fixture of a battle shield. The study complements and ascertains attribution of materials from the Corpus of archaeological evidence on medieval armament, prepared for publication by A. N. Kirpichnikov half a century ago. The authors offer a typology and chronology of newly discovered artefacts. It was marked that, of the arrowheads typical for 10th — 13th cc. Eastern Europe, found in the center of the settlement, over a half are represented by lance-shaped forms, dated by as early as 10th — 11th cc.
