Early AD is one of the least studied periods in the history of Bosporus. There are very few known historical sources of the time, particularly early chronicles and epigraphic texts. However, Bosporan coins of the time are quite numerous. Specifically, we focused our study on the Bosporan coins dated by late BC - early AD, and first of all on the numerous and diverse monograms, widely known on gold and copper coinage of this state, and suggested new methods to decode these abbreviations. As a result, we managed to identify Polemon I's and Roman monetary officials' coinage, as well as distinguish the interregnum emissions and identify and date copper coins of Mitridates II and Aspurgus's early emissions.
