The article contains an important historical record for the past of Moldavia, the so called “Bessarabian Constitution of 1818”. This Constitution was granted to the region by the Russian Emperor Alexander I during his visit to Kishinev. The act was valid until 1828. It also describes in short the situation in Bessarabia before and after the adoption of the Statute. Besides, the author shows some reasons that led to abolishment of the Bessarabian Constitution and to Bessarabian autonomy within the Russian Empire.
