The article analyses a plaster amulet of XVII-XVIII centuries found close to Odessa and having on its obverse a composition of two dolphins moving one after the other clockwise. The image suggests a high apotropaic implication. The semiotic analysis of the amulet is made against the wide historical background of the epoch. The amulet is supposed to have belonged to a Christian Cossack and used to be a talisman saving him of any danger. The amulet is an outstanding and unique artifact reflecting the chivalrous mentality of the Ukrainian Cossacks.
