The article deals with little-known history of co-operation between Finnish and Russian archaeologists that developed in large part due to a significant spread, chronological, and typological diversity of archaeological sites of the Finno-Ugric peoples. One of these scientific driving forces was A. M. Tallgren, who founded the magazine Eurasia Septentrionalis Antiqua (ESA), which served as a bridge between Russia and Western archaeologists and made possible familiarization with advanced research.
