Vladislav Vsevolodovich Kropotkin, the descendant of the famous princely family of the Kropotkins, was one of the funders of contemporary East-European archaeology. He was a talented historian and archaeologist and gave birth to a lot of original concepts and scientific ideas. At the same time he withheld from suggesting any hypotheses without a solid argumentation. The first in the Soviet archaeology, however, in 50-70s V.V. Kropotkin defined the bearers of Cerniakhov culture as the tribes of Gothic community. He combines careful processing of fundamental archaeological records with fruitful theoretical work.
