The article includes an overview of the new archaeological finds on Izhora highland. This area in the 1st millennium AD was inhabited by the western group of the Baltic-Finnish peoples. The beginning of the settlement belongs to 1st—2nd century AD, when the core of the settlement formed, which functioned throughout the I millennium AD and preserv its ethnic and cultural identity until the 16th century, when it is mentioned as “pogosty v chudi” (cemeteries in Chud). The relationship of population of the Izhora highland with Estonia and Finland is also shown
