In the last quarter of the 19th century I. K. Suruchan (1851-1897) created the Museum of antiquities in Kishinev where he lived. In his museum there were different antiquities. The major part of exhibits were found in the South of Russia. Some objects were found and bought by Suruchan in Egypt, in Greece, in Italy. I. K. Suruchan was interested in  ancient history, in archaeology and he took part in archaeological excavations. He  learned ancient Greek and studied inscriptions found in the South of Russia and ancient authors’ records. Unfortunately, after his death his museum was liquidated by his widow and all collections were sold out.
