It is the first publication of the find of a bronze battle hammer from the collection of the I. A. Goncharov Museum of Local Lore of the Ulyanovsk Region. The battle hammer was found in 2016 in a batch of sand and gravel mixture delivered to an enterprise in Ulyanovsk from a cis-Kama field. The hammer has a sculpted head with stylized figurines of predatory animals, and a relief of a lying predator on the socket of the hammer. As the authors found out, zoomorphic images on sockets and heads of battle hammers attributed to the Ananyino cultural-historical area are not typical. By composition and iconography of images, this type of hammer can be classified as Scythian-Siberian animal style and linked to the Asian part of the area. The battle hammer is dated by the authors within the second quarter of the 7th — early 6th centuries BC, or narrowed down within the second half — last quarter of the 7th century BC.
Keywords: Lower Kama region, Early Iron Age, Ananyino cultural and historical area, battle hammer, Scythian-Siberian beast style
