The article covers the protective equipment items: helmets, armour, horse front straps and breast collars made in several handicraft centres. Those centres are localized at the sites of the ancient Maeotian settlements of the Trans-Kuban region, at the northern foothills of the Western Caucasus, and in the valleys of the Belaya and Kurdzhips rivers. The centres operated in the period from the second half of the 4th century till the 1st century BC. It may be worth mentioning that unlike the antique armour which had become widespread, the products of the local armourers were only distributed locally. This was due to the smaller scope of production, the relatively low quality of the items and their peculiar decoration meeting the tastes of the local people.
