The ensemble of the medieval Khadzhibey Fortress (in the territory of the modern Odessa) was built two stages. In the 1421, the Lithuanian duke Vitautas founded the Castle of Kachubiev. In the 1765, the already abandoned a medieval castle, was restored by the Turks. On the perimeter around it, they erected bastion-fortress Yeni-Dunya. Bastion fortifications were destroyed by the Russian troops in July 1774. The medieval castle existed until 1789, when it was conquered by the Russian troops under the command of Joseph Deribas.
