The article contains an analysis of Plato’s utopian views in perspective of the modern cultural anthropology. The author suggests parallels between the ideal state design according to Plato with modern social ideas, on the one hand, and ethnographic evidence, on the other hand. This allows taking a new perspective on the origin of utopian ideas and their place in the cultural world view.
