The article is a review on the collection of articles dedicated to development of archaeology in Germany in late 19th – 20th cc. (Härke H (ed.) Archaeology, ideology and society: The German experience. Peter Lang, Frankfurt a.M. et al. [Gesellschaften und Staaten im Epochenwandel. Bd.7] 2000). Following the contents of the collection, the author analyzes concepts determining development of the German archaeology during a rather complicated period of the country’s political history in the last century.
