Miron Costin’s works are inherent in the time of the Ottoman rule in Moldavia, terrible economic decline and massive failures of land owners. He founded a new stage in Moldavian historiography and literature, and owing to him they became part of the common European Baroque. His writings were intended to educate and entertain readers. Miron Costin wanted to see an educated and wise monarch rule the country liberated from the Ottoman domination, and he wished people of his class enjoyed the same rights as the Polish gentry (szlachta).
