Donbass is a large geological formation in the south of Eastern Europe. The Donets range is flanked with Tertiary deposits rich in flint and quartz. It is in the Middle Palaeolithic that the Donbass and adjacent regions were for the first time inhabited on the permanent basis. The raw material factor exerted a substantial influence on the Middle Palaeolithic settlement patterns. Mobile groups of hunters-gatherers developed a special raw material use strategy based on the transportation of small amounts of tools and blanks for their manufacture. It can be designated as a “mobile tool kit strategy”.
