The article presents the results of new research (2006—2011) on the Neolithic settlement of Gard, located in the steppe zone of the Southern Bug river basin. The early and late Neolithic are characterized. Basing on the inventory of the strata, the key problems of the neolithisation of South-Western Ukraine, genesis of the Bug-Dniester culture and the so-called “steppe Neolithic” are discussed. A detailed analysis of the data about the chronology and periodisation of sites is aldo made. A special emphasis is drawn on the analysis of the Mediteranean and Balkan impulses and their influence on the process of the neolithisation of the region. Also, the aspects of the interrelations between local population and early farming communities of Starcevo-Cris, LBK and Precucuteni-Tripolye A are being discussed.
