Fragments of the protective armament are known from a number of the Slavic monuments of 6th—7th centuries. The Byzantine authors of 7th century mentioned about heavily armed soldiers of the Balkan Slavs. Till 8th century Slavs, who settled in various parts of Europe, were approximately at the same level of social and economic development. Therefore, the archaeological findings in Eastern Europe and mentions by the Byzantines about the army of the Balkan Slavs reflect a single process of evolution of the Slavic military science.
