This article tests the possibility of applying the semiotic theories to the archaeological research. The theory of Charles Peirce has been correlated with inductive procedure of archaeological research while the theories based on the semiology of Ferdinand de Saussure have been correlated with deductive procedure of archaeological research. The archaeological typology has been represented as a semiotic model where certain objects refer to other as signs. The author considered typological connections and semiotic reference between the symbols of North Pontic anthropomorphic stelae and the semiotic systems of the Eneolithic and Bronze Age in Western Europe and Near East.
Keywords: Europe, Eneolithic, Bronze Age, archaeological semiotics, archaeologycal typology, antropomorphic stelae, megalithic art, rock art.
