The author examines origins and perspectives of culture. Its primary sign, imprinted in the story of the Binding of Isaac by Abraham, was the horror suffered by the human ancestors in devouring their own children. It is shown that animal basic elements of sacrifices sanctify the ambivalent relationships in modern culture, such as violence-fear, domination-slavery, appropriation-alienation. An alternative that might be adequate to the informational civilization culture seems to be the culture of self-sacrifice with its values of love, freedom, creativity.
