The article offers a hypothesis that in VI-V centuries B.C. on the place of modern Odessa there was situated a big ancient town – Harbour of Histrians. It was an outpost of Histria in the Northern Black Sea region. But by the II c., when it is mentioned by Arrian, it turned into a small fishing village. Only a small part of the town is kept till present, this its necropolis. The town itself is now at the bottom of the sea.
