The article presents unique headgear from the Oglakhty cemetery (early stage of Tashtyk culture). These are two hats from grave 4/1969 (excavated by L. Kyzlasov) and a pompon from grave 1/1903 (excavated by A. Adrianov). A detailed description of the construction and special features of the hats is provided. Both hats are double-layered hoods with the fur side facing outward, featuring ear flaps, ties, a nape cover, and a pompon. Common technological standards have been revealed: the hats are assembled from two halves, contain darts and edgings, have individual details of patchwork character and overlapping joining to conceal seams. Proteomic analysis (ZooMS) aimed at the identification of the fur of hat 2 demonstrated that it could have been made from the hides of ungulate species (most likely goat, sheep, deer). Whereas hat 1 belonged to a man, the identity of the owner of hat 2 in the grave was unknown. According to its position in the burial, hat 2 may have belonged to the so-called burial mannequin containing male cremated remains. Characteristic features of the high female hairstyles could also suggest that such hats were rather part of the male costume. Construction of the hats shows similarities with the headgear of Scythian-period pastoralistsheadgear which allows them to be regarded as a continuation of this tradition. Pompons, evidently, represent a different tradition. Each hat had a post-mortem face cover, stitched to its front side. They have analogies beyond the Altai-Sayan region, in the areas of both Tarim Basin and the Fergana Valley.
