This contribution was written in connection with publication of books by A. D. Oguy in 2009—2010 on the history of money circulation and currency denomination in Bucovina, which was part of the Moldavian medieval state in the 14th—16th centuries. The solutions proposed by the author for the relevant problems in the economic and political life of the region deserve high appreciation. Special attention is paid to periodization. The work also shows the perspectives of comparative historical research on the basis of numismatic materials and information from documentary sources.
