Targeted search for Palaeolithic sites in the Lower Ob region have led to the formulation of a hypotheses about the routes of peopling of this territory. Archaeological surveys covered the Lower Ob valley and the valleys of its left-bank tributaries, and GIS modelling of the routes convenient for crossing the Polar Urals has been carried out. According to the available evidence, the first settlers penetrated into the north of Western Siberia through the valleys of Northeastern Europe. The detection of archaeological traces of these migrations is complicated by the specific composition of Quaternary sediments in the study area. On the left bank of the Lower Ob, the cover complex is represented by re-deposited diamictons formed in the Holocene and covering most of the paleontological and archeological traces of human penetration through the Ural Mountains into the Trans-Urals region. On the right bank of the Lower Ob, the increased capacity of the subaerial complex makes the middle Upper Palaeolithic sites hardly accessible.
