This article is devoted to Tivertsy, the people known in 9—10 centuries from the Russian chronicles. Tivertsy resettled to the Dniester region between the years 864 to 885 from the Balkans, where they were known from Byzantine sources, under the name of “Tervunians”. The reason of their resettlement were Serbo-Bulgarian wars, accompanied by population movements. The article substantiates the new versions of the meaning of the word “Tolkoviny”, used by the Russian chroniclers concerning Tivertsy who participated in the march of Russia to Constantinople in 907.
