The paper deals with some basic questions related to the study of cultural dynamics during the late Middle Palaeolithic in Ukraine. While the currently available data cannot serve as a reliable basis for reconstructing cultural dynamics on local scale, it is still possible to identify some important cultural trends for vast geographical areas and long chronological periods. The data obtained on Ukrainian Middle Palaeolithic sites are indicative of the accelerating progressive complication of cultural dynamics. This process appears to have depended not on environmental conditions, but rather on the changes in the demographic parameters of Neanderthal societies.
