The article is dedicated to the problem of such phenomena of fashion as female costume and how it's being stipulated by the historical and cultural peculiarities of the epoch.
The main goal of this research is to analyse the evolution of the European female costume at the period of the last third of the XIX - first quarter of the XX centuries and its conditionality on the general cultural context.
The choice ofthe chronological bounds is not fortuitous.This very period represents a cultutral outburst and suits very well for the analysis of the change of the material and spiritual values.The destruction ofthe old system of values and the formation of the new one as well as the matters caused them has a clear reflection in all spheres of Art.
