The author is primarily interested in establishing what contemporary science knows about Slavic paganism and about its origin. The study is based on written, ethnographic and archaeological records, which allowed distinguishing linguistic, comparative-historical, «armchair» mythology and archaeological approaches to the subject matter. The author analyzed merits and drawbacks of each approach, compared these approaches, drew parallels between the Slavic Gods and Gods of other religions, found connections between Slavic Gods according to these approaches, built tables of parallels and connections between Gods and interpreted the results.
