This article deals with the cross-cultural education, specifically in the methodology of language teaching. The author analyses some approaches to the language teaching concerned with the synchronic study of culture and language. The cross-cultural approach or, in other words, the language teaching of Romanian language through Russian (and vice versa), in the view of their cultures becomes an adequate approach under the circumstances in today"s Moldova. The main aims are development of intercultural competence, creation of positive ethnic images of nations and in general all these bring up a student to be tolerant. One of the most important tasks focuses on the study of culturological material from these two languages: phraseological units, idioms, proverbs etc. Cross-cultural language teaching determines the principal method -a comparison -with the purpose of inter-supplement of culturological knowledge. Therefore the cross-cultural approach to the language teaching contributes to personal and national self-determination and becomes an instrument of education of a tolerant personality.
