There were two types of horse trainings in Achaemenid Iran in the 6th—5th cc. BC. The first one was “standard”, aimed to drill the horse not to fear of noise and to trample the fallen men, the second one was “aggressive”, was practiced by some noble Persians and was aimed to drill to bite and kick the enemy. This allowed to distract the enemy and thus beat him easier. Only aggressive stallions (not geldings) were selected for such aggressive drilling, which developed their natural aggressiveness.
Keywords: ancient Persians, military horse training.
