Study of semantics of images of male head on obverses of 10 Tyra coins has shown that on some coins it personified the city community, on others — with “diadem” and “bow” — represented Roman Emperor Augustus as Apollo. Semantics of reverses is understood as proclamation of the Roman Senate as the defender of the city from external threats.

Keywords: semantics, variability, Augustus-Apollo, proclamation
