The article is the first scientific publication of a gold Byzantine coin found incidentally near the village Suvorovo (Ismail, Odessa oblast’ of Ukraine) in 1997. This solid is a rare finding in the region of the Lower Danube; it was minted in Constantinople by the Emperor Basil I (867-886) and his son-co-ruler Constantine (868-879). The finding can be synchronized with the Bulgarian antiquities represented in the region on settlements of the Balkan-Danube culture.
