The appearance in the material culture of new categories of objects has always woken up a special interest of researchers. The paper presents a comprehensive analysis (classification, spatial and temporal characteristics, comparison with neighboring areas) of one type of moulded crockery of Early Scythian time: cup-type scoops. This kind of scoop is innovative and it had no parallels in the prior time. Certain area (forest-steppe part of the Middle Dnieper Land) and chronological frame of their existence (within the second half of the 7th — turn of the 6th—5th centuries BC) are determined. Arguments were given in favor of this ceramic category's origin which is associated with the outflow of the Scythians from the North Caucasus Region and with the influence of nomadic “fashion” on the local pottery tradition of the Dnieper Land.

Keywords: Middle Dnieper Land, Scythian culture, Early Iron Age, ceramics, pottery tradition, cup-type scoop
